ELIGIBILITY REMINDER FOR ALL ATHLETESThe start of the new quarter is upon us. StudentsMUSTbe enrolled in and have to pass 5 credits in the new quarter at the HS level to be eligible to play a winter sport and a spring sport starting in February. Keep in mind thatif you are enrolled in a CCP course and you drop the course or fail to attend and they drop you, the STUDENT SHOULD NOTIFY athletics and their counselor ASAP. Also, a few reminders: 1. When taking a CCP course it MUST be a 14-16 week course. 8 week coursesCOULD CAUSEyou to be ineligible. They count toward eligibility but you must be enrolled in that CCP course prior to the start of the new semester 2. GPA’s must be above 2.0 or students will be placed on an academic contract 3. The OHSAA eligibility standards are FOR QUARTER GRADES ONLY. Semester grades do not count towards eligibility 4. Over the last 2 weeks, the Mustangs have been able to defeat top ranked Jackson and state ranked St. Ignatius. On Wednesday vs St. Ignatius, theVarsityMustangs bestedSt.Ignatius 6-2. Strongsville Varsity Mustangs opened the scoring in the topofthe secondthankstofoursingles. Strongsville Varsity Mustangs first got on the board whenGavin Reidsingled, scoring tworuns. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking two.Logan Banyasstarted onthe bump for Steele. BOYS LACROSSE TRAVELS TO COLUMBUSOn Friday night our Varsity team beat Marysville, 16-7 at Capital University. Scoring goals for the Mustangs were Nick Dubsky (9 goals, 1 assist, 1 CTO, 3 GB’s), Patrick Haddad (3 goals, 1 assist), Vinci Adams (2 goals, 1 assist), Finn Royer (1 goal, 2 assists, 1 CTO, 4 GB’s), and Grady Swiger (1 goal). Defensively it was a team effort and the following players helped Kyle Puma (1 CTO, 3 GB’s), Will Dasher (1 GB with a lot of successful clears), Owen Galla (1 CTO, 2 GB’s), Carmen Procaccini (1 CTO, 1 GB), Logan Ensign (1 CTO, 1 GB) and in goal Jace Barnhizer had 8 saves. Finally Jackson Pedmo went 19-26 on Faceoffs. On Saturday both teams (JV and Varsity) lost against a talented Delaware Hayes team. Stats are not available at this time. This upcoming week the Mustangs have 3 home games, Tuesday against Mentor (JV:5pm, Varsity 7pm), Thursday against Avon Lake (Varsity: 5pm, JV: 6:45pm), Saturday against Perrysburg (Varsity: 2:30pm, JV: 4:30pm). | |||||||||
GIRLS LACROSSE CONTINUES TO CHALLENGE THEMSELVES WITH TOUGH SCHEDULEThe varsity team went 1-2 last week, while JV went 2-0. Both teams had great GCC conference wins against Brunswick. Varsity had losses to both New Albany and Bay Village. Both of these tough teams reached the final four playoffs last year. We know playing a tougher schedule isn’t about focusing on wins but the process. Process over results! The hope is that these difficult games will help us grow and get us farther in the post season. It’s hard to believe there are only 4 weeks left in the regular season! The team is going to focus on being more consistent and maintaining our energy in this last half of the season. The team needs to finish like we started this season! Brunswick gave us our first GCC conference win with a score of 17-3. Leading the team were Tori Wanat with 5 goals, 2 assists and Allanah Hagen with 6 goals. Sophie Adanitcsh had 3 goals and 1 assist while Addie Owen Kren, Hayley Huston, and Lexi Miller each got one goal a piece. Lilly Drenski and Delaney Dadas got into the action with 5 assists collectively. (Drenski 3, Dadas 2). Karson Filut had an outstanding 60% save % while the lady Mustangs got 14 caused turnovers led by Wanat with 4. The New Albany just proved too tough returning back from Spring Break with a loss 17-5. Scoring for the Mustangs were Tori Wanat with 2 goals, Lilly Drenski 2 goals and Addie Owen Kren with 1 goal. On Saturday, the varsity team lost to Bay Village 13-12. Box scores/stats show a very tight match as the Lady Mustangs just couldn’t come up with the victory. Leading the team was Lilly Drenski with 4 goals and 1 assist. Tori Wanat and Sophie Adanaitsch both with 3 goals. Addie Owen Kren had 2 goals. Despite the losses, Wanat, Owen-Kren and Drenski played great games on both ends of the field against New Albany and Bay. In addition, draw controls and possession have been improving for our midfield team over the course of the season. Key players taking the draw include Lilly Drenski and Izzy Medrick, while a rotation with Wanat, Hagen, Adanitsch and Owen Kren on the circle has helped the mustangs improve their possession %. We plan to work more in depth on our draw strategies in this second half of the season. | |||||||||

BOYS TENNISVarsity (1-4, 1-0 GCC):The boys tennis team went 1-1 this past week, falling to St. Eds 3-2 before the Mustangs picked up their first win of the season as they opened up conference play with a 5-0 victory over Cleveland Heights. After the rain postponed matches with Mentor and Olmsted Falls, the team competed at Paramount Westlake at the St. Ed’s Tournament on Saturday. In the match against St. Ed’s, Strongsville won both doubles courts (Xander Blair/Marko Ostryk & Rahul Sanghvi/Jake Watts) while the Eagles claimed all three singles courts despite a three setter from Carter Estrela at 3rd singles and a lengthy two set battle from Will Jevec at 2nd singles. In Wednesday’s sweep of Cleveland Heights, the Mustangs got singles wins from Param Oswal, Jevec and Philip Taran and doubles wins from Blair/Ostryk & Sanghvi/Watts. Congrats to Philip on his first career varsity victory! The team has a busy week coming up as they are scheduled to play 5 matches in 5 days and conclude the week at the Medina Doubles Tournament on Saturday. JV (3-1):The JV team went 1-0 this week with a 4-1 win over St. Ed’s before being rained out with Mentor and Olmsted Falls. In the victory, Philip Taran won at 1st singles and Noel Tocaj won at 3rd singles. Strongsville swept doubles play as Tihami Tariq/Archie Wahl & Evan Czech/Chaatwik Nettem recorded wins. The team also added numerous exhibition wins against the Eagles. This week the JV team will face off against Medina, Brunswick, St. Ignatius and Mentor before participating in the JV GCC Tournament on Friday. | |||||||||
TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS COMPETE IN TWO MEETS DURING THE WEEKBOYS TRACK Wednesday Recap: Strongsville 96, Euclid 40 I wish I could say I have all the results from Wednesday’s meet. I have spoken to and received many of the results sheets from Euclid, but not all of the results survived the rain at the end of the meet and were illegible.HEREis a link to all of the results that I was able to collect. As a side note. It is important to understand that hand timing is not as accurate as Fully Automated Timing (FAT). The shorter the race the more inaccurate the time (not including human error). Therefore, a formula is applied to hand times to make them more accurate. A .24 is added to the short sprints (110H, 100M, 200M, 300M). Saturday Recap: Strongsville Placed 15thof over 40 teams. This meet has talent levels compared to a Regional Meet or higher. This means some of the top teams and performances from all three divisions were in attendance and performed. If you are a track fan, some great performances took place yesterday. That said, I want to give credit where credit is due. Jack Dillen scored all 21 of our Points! NEW TICKETING PRICES FOR THE GCCThe Greater Cleveland Conference (GCC) will be raising admission ticket prices for all athletic events beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. In May, GCC principals approved the increase in athletic ticket prices after GCC Athletic Directors conducted a review of ticket prices for surrounding conferences in Northeast Ohio and found most to already be at these price levels. Ticket sales revenue generated from the events is the main source of funding used by member schools to cover costs for sports and the overall athletic department budget. While costs of game officials, security, sporting equipment, along with all the other costs associated with these events have increased and ticket prices have not. The increase is intended to help offset costs without sacrificing family, student and community experiences. This is the first price increase the GCC has issued since the formation of the league in 2020. The GCC consists of member schools Brunswick, Cleveland Heights, Euclid, Medina, Mentor, Shaker Heights, and Strongsville. ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT OFFERS SEASON PASSESNew this year to the Mustangs Athletic Department is the ability for Students and Adults to purchase passes.ADULT PASS: The Athletic Department will offer a 10 EVENT GAME PASS for adults. This pass will be $80.00 dollars for the 10 games. This means any ADULT can use this pass and get entrance into any 10 games they want. With this pass, ADULTS will also receive 1 game free so in total, ADULTS can use this pass for 11 events. This pass can be used multiple times for one event, but will not exceed the 11 games. For more questions on the Adult Pass, please reach out to the Athletic Department. STUDENT PASS:Once again this year, the Athletic Boosters will pay upwards of $7500 for students to attend sporting events FREE OF CHARGE, EXCEPT for Boys Basketball and Varsity Football. In Boys Basketball and Varsity Football, students MUST purchase a ticket to be admitted into the contest. The Student Pass, which will cost a Student $50.00 for the year, will allow them to get into any Boys Basketball and Varsity Football game at no charge with the pass. In total, there are 16 games between Boys Basketball and Varsity Football, which gives the Students a savings of $30.00 by purchasing the student pass.
