What is the difference between Tdap and Tdap booster shots? ›

The DTaP vaccine is for children aged 2 months to 6 years. The Tdap vaccine is a booster shot given at age 11 or 12 and then after every 10 years. Booster shots are extra doses you get after you have had your primary shots as a child. These make sure that you continue to be protected in adulthood.

Symptoms of tetanus may not begin to appear until a week after the injury, so as a rule of thumb, try to get the tetanus booster shot within 48 hours of the injury. If tetanus is left untreated, your body could face long-term complications such as airway obstruction, heart failure, muscle damage, and/or brain damage.
