These messages are scams. Anyone who believes their EBT card has been compromised should reach out to their local County Assistance Office (CAO) to replace their current card: https://www.dhs.pa.gov/Services/Assistance/Pages/CAO-Contact.aspx “DHS will never ask for personal information in an unsolicited text message, email, or phone call. If someone is claiming to be from or affiliated with the Department and they are asking you for your personal information, it is a scam,” said Secretary Arkoosh. “Please do not fall victim to identity theft. PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE2+ weeks agoAgencyScam Alert: Counterfeit $100 Bills Passed in Indiana County PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 3, 2024 Scam Alert: Counterfeit $100 Bills Passed in Indiana County White Township, PA – Troopers are alerting local businesses after several counterfeit US $100 bills were passed today in Indiana County. Since approximately 3:00 p.m. today, members of the Troop A, Indiana Patrol Unit have been dispatched to four separate businesses in White Township after counterfeit US $100 bills were passed. Those four businesses include: Advance Auto Parts (2085 Oakland Avenue), Aroma Joe’s, (2057 Oakland Avenue), AutoZone (2044 Oakland Avenue), and Harbor Freight Tools (2334 Oakland Avenue). During the transactions, the suspect passed a counterfeit US $100 bill as payment for a low-value item or items. Also this afternoon, counterfeit US $100 bills were attempted to be passed at Dunham’s Sports (2334 Oakland Avenue) and Kohl’s (2334 Oakland Avenue). The suspect is described as a white, Hispanic male reported to be approximately 19-20 years of age. He was also reported to have facial tattoos. A fourth unknown suspect is still being sought. On the afternoon of March 3, 2024, members of Troop A, Indiana were dispatched to investigate the passing of counterfeit US $100 bills at several businesses in White Township. While canvassing the area, troopers developed information and subsequently located and apprehended three adult male suspects. Charges are pending against all three suspects. A fourth unknown suspect is described as a white, Hispanic male believed to be approximately 19-20 years of age with medium-length dark hair. He was observed on surveillance video at Aldi (2910 Oakland Avenue) wearing glasses, a blue Calvin Klein sweatshirt, blue sweatpants, and dark-colored shoes. This is a scam. “DHS will never ask for personal information in an unsolicited email, text message, or phone call. If someone is claiming to be from or affiliated with the Department and they are asking you for your personal information, it is a scam,” said DHS Secretary Val Arkoosh. “Please do not fall victim to identity theft. If you ever receive a suspicious call or text asking you for information about your benefits or for your financial information, please inform the DHS fraud tip line immediately so the proper authorities can investigate.” Please report any texts or calls about DHS benefits that seem suspicious by calling the DHS fraud tip line at 1-844-DHS-TIPS (1-844-347-8477). DHS does send informational text messages and phone calls to people who receive SNAP, Medicaid, and other benefits from the number 1-833-648-1964.
